Running from September 2025 through July 2026, the season offers a journey across three centuries of opera, featuring composers from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Giuseppe Verdi to contemporary figures like Philip Glass.

Autumn 2025
The Cunning Little Vixen — Leoš Janáček
20–30 September 2025
The season opens with Janáček’s poetic and imaginative opera, a work that blends folklore, philosophy, and reflections on the natural cycle of life. With its vivid orchestration and charming animal characters, The Cunning Little Vixen is one of the composer’s most beloved creations.
Akhnaten — Philip Glass
16 October – 3 November 2025
This hypnotic minimalist opera tells the story of the Egyptian pharaoh who attempted to establish monotheism in ancient Egypt. Akhnaten forms part of Glass’s celebrated trilogy about historical visionaries and is renowned for its ritualistic staging and mesmerizing musical language.
L’elisir d’amore — Gaetano Donizetti
22 November – 15 December 2025
One of the most charming comic operas in the repertoire, L’elisir d’amore follows the naïve Nemorino as he attempts to win Adina’s love with the help of a supposed magic potion. Featuring sparkling melodies and the famous aria “Una furtiva lagrima,” Donizetti’s opera remains a perennial audience favourite.
Winter 2026
Tristan und Isolde — Richard Wagner
12–31 January 2026
Wagner’s monumental music drama is one of the most influential works in the history of opera. With its intense emotional depth and revolutionary harmonic language, Tristan und Isolde continues to captivate audiences more than 150 years after its premiere.
La Gioconda — Amilcare Ponchielli
16 February – 2 March 2026
Set in a dark and dramatic Venice, Ponchielli’s grand opera is famous for its powerful vocal writing and the celebrated ballet “Dance of the Hours.” A spectacular example of Italian grand opera, La Gioconda combines passion, intrigue, and impressive stage effects.
Manon Lescaut — Giacomo Puccini
17 March – 1 April 2026
Puccini’s breakthrough opera tells the tragic love story of Manon and Des Grieux. Rich orchestration, sweeping melodies, and powerful dramatic scenes make Manon Lescaut one of the most emotionally intense works in the Italian repertoire.
Spring 2026
Werther — Jules Massenet
2–17 May 2026
Inspired by the novel by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Massenet’s opera is a masterpiece of French Romanticism. The work explores the psychology of its characters with lyrical elegance and emotional depth, culminating in one of opera’s most poignant endings.
Le nozze di Figaro — Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
4–21 June 2026
Mozart’s comic masterpiece returns to the Liceu with its perfect blend of wit, social commentary, and musical brilliance. Le nozze di Figaro remains one of the most frequently performed operas in the world and a cornerstone of the classical repertoire.
Summer 2026
Falstaff — Giuseppe Verdi
9–19 July 2026
The season concludes with Verdi’s final opera, a sparkling comedy based on characters from Shakespeare. With its rapid ensembles, playful orchestration, and sophisticated humour, Falstaff is a joyful farewell from one of opera’s greatest composers.
